Program

Description

Just beyond the waves of Bali’s southwest coast, nestled in the creative village of Canggu, a different kind of journey begins. It is not just an escape or a new adventure. It is an invitation to stand with Indonesian youth who are ready to rewrite their future. These young people have survived major challenges and now, with your support, they are learning to dream again.

At Stella’s Child, We work with some of the most vulnerable children and teens in Indonesia. Many have grown up in orphanages or under the care of struggling families. Some have experienced abandonment, violence, or exploitation.

As a volunteer, you become a guide, a mentor, a bridge. You may assist in personal development programs, help teens build self-awareness and emotional intelligence, or work directly in vocational training that prepares them for the workforce. You might help them explore real-world business skills through our Youth Entrepreneurship Program, or support them in our Career Preparation workshops where they build résumés, practice interviews, and prepare to take their place in the professional world.

Each program we offer is intentionally crafted to break the cycle of poverty. The Youth Leadership Program helps shape the next generation of changemakers, empowering teens to take initiative and give back to their communities. Through our Life Skills Program, youth learn essential skills in communication, teamwork, financial literacy, and personal development. Volunteers who have experience in business, media, education, or nonprofit work can find deep fulfillment here, but even those new to volunteering quickly find their place.

Canggu offers a unique balance of calm and creativity. When you’re not volunteering, you can enjoy sunrises by the ocean, try a surf lesson, wander through bustling artisan markets, or simply take a quiet moment at a beachside café. Here, you’ll find community not only in your work but in the rhythms of daily life.

As a volunteer, you’re not just giving your time — you’re making a real difference in the lives of young people who deserve a chance. You’ll support them as they gain skills, confidence, and hope for the future. And along the way, you may also grow in ways you didn’t expect — gaining new perspective, purpose, and connection.

A typical

Day in the Life

Begin your day at your accommodation, located in the heart of Canggu, just a 10-minute motorbike ride or 15-minute cycle to the project's main office. After a breakfast of fresh fruit, toast, and Balinese coffee in the breezy dining area, you pack up your notebook, water bottle, and energy and head off.

7:00 AM – Breakfast at your accommodation

Fuel up with a healthy breakfast and connect with fellow volunteers. You might talk about the day’s goals or share a few tips over coffee before heading out.

7:45 AM – Travel to your project

Enjoy the short ride through the backroads of Canggu. Whether you take a scooter or bicycle, you’ll pass rice paddies, local warungs, and peaceful morning scenes.

8:00 AM – Arrival and Morning Briefing

Meet with the team for a morning circle. You’ll discuss the schedule, divide roles, and align on the day’s youth activities. Volunteers are often involved in:

  • Life Skills Workshops

  • FirstEmploy job readiness training

  • Social media planning

  • Staff support and development

  • Facility improvement projects (painting, organizing)

8:30 AM to 10:00 AM – Life Skills Training Sessions

Support or facilitate sessions on topics like emotional intelligence, self-confidence, teamwork, and communication. Sessions are interactive, combining discussion, games, role-play, and storytelling. Volunteers with experience in business, education, psychology, or nonprofit work often lead these sessions.

10:00 AM to 10:30 AM – Morning Break

Share snacks and informal conversation with the youth. This is a great time to build trust, check in with individuals, or offer encouragement.

10:30 AM to 12:00 PM – FirstEmploy or Entrepreneurship Program

Help youth develop practical career tools — writing CVs, practicing interviews, exploring career goals, or working on business plans. You might also join in product development or prepare items for sale in social enterprise training.

12:00 PM to 1:00 PM – Lunch Break

Lunch is typically informal and social. Eat with staff and students, or take a quiet moment outside the office. Volunteers often grab a nearby nasi campur or smoothie bowl from a café down the road.

1:00 PM to 2:00 PM – Afternoon Mentoring or Project Work

This may include one-on-one mentoring, helping with content creation (video, blog posts, Instagram), working on staff development, or assisting with preparations for events and workshops.

2:00 PM to 3:00 PM – Support Boarding House or Planning

If you choose to work into the afternoons, you could then head to the youth boarding house to help with light tasks like organizing supplies, painting, cleaning, or creating welcome spaces. You may also help plan future workshops, field trips, or community projects.

3:00 PM to 3:15 PM – End of Day Wrap-Up

Gather for a short debrief with the team. Reflect on the day’s impact and get updates for the next session. Then, back to the Hostel

Volunteers may also take part in:

  • "Look at Me Now" Speaker Sessions
Share your life and career journey with students to inspire resilience and vision.

  • Two-week field trip in Karangasem
Includes beach picnics, environmental projects, jukung boat rides, local meals, and community-building with the youth

Return to your accommodation by afternoon for a swim, a nap by the pool, or a sunset walk to the beach. This vibrant home base offers more than just a place to sleep, it is a social hub where you can mingle, share stories and make friends from around the world. Whether you are unwinding on the rooftop, joining a ping pong match, or catching up in the coworking lounge, there is always something happening.

At 7:00 PM, gather with other volunteers for Dinner or relax under the stars during Movie Night on Wednesdays too. The hostel’s energy is welcoming and creative, with regular activities like karaoke, volleyball, and group workouts,  all included and designed to make you feel connected. While outside meals are not allowed inside, you are just steps away from some of Canggu’s best street food and café gems.
