Volunteer Abroad with Boresha Maisha Projects

Create Change, Learn, Travel Responsibly

Our
Story

The saying “Boresha Maisha” means “improving lives” in Swahili and that is exactly what we wish to accomplish with these volunteer projects – to create possibilities for communities and individuals to work abroad for a cause and grow and help create a better future.

Volunteering abroad, in Tanzania, can be a challenge, especially since today there are hundreds of volunteer organizations out there and it’s hard to know which one is the right one. Boresha Maisha Projects emerged from a pursuit to inspire and support community development ethically, and over the long term. Having seen the bad effects of “voluntourism” many of the volunteering programs create, we wished to find more sustainable projects and causes, where the impacts will last and, not be forgotten by the next arriving volunteers. We wish to create programs specifically for volunteers or students with the appropriate skills and motivations.

What Volunteers Say:

"I am studying to be a teacher back home, so I wanted to do something a little different, mainly to get some experience in different classroom settings around the world. I was based at Highridge School with my friend who was doing the sports program, and we really loved the school. The Director was a cool guy who really cares about the kids education. They were all so open to our ideas and suggestions on how we could make the learning program more interactive for the kids. I'm Tanzania the style of learning js very rote, so we made things more active and play based. The hostel we stayed at was The White House of Tanzania and it was the best spot in the city. We were there with some other volunteers but also travellers from all over. The house is lovely, they have a bar and really amazing food! I'll be staying there again when I go back, hopefully after graduation. The staff were also really lovely and became like our second family. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in doing something different and volunteering, but wanting to do it at a legitimate program which actually values long term sustainability and growth in their organisations!."
